VA PTA 2013 Proposed Legislation Program

The Virginia PTA, our governing PTA body, presents Proposed Legislative Action Items and Position Statements each year to determine PTA members’ support.  The 2013 Proposed Legislation Program includes the following issues:

The Virginia PTA supports legislation and policy that offers public schools reasonable flexibility within school system guidelines, procurement and calendars in an effort to encourage academic success.

The Virginia PTA supports legislation that reserves the privilege of participation in public school extracurricular activities to full-time public school students.

Virginia PTA supports full implementation, in all school divisions, of the Virginia Department of Education’s Model Student Conduct and School Discipline Policy.

Virginia PTA encourages all local and council PTAs to actively engage in the development, review, and dissemination of local student conduct and school discipline policies.

To vote on these issues, current PTA members are asked to print the 2013 PLP ballot and return it to James River Elementary by Friday, October 19, 2012.

If you have any questions about these items, the rationale or history, please do not hesitate to contact the committee at

Why should you clip Box Tops for Education?

Because they allow teachers and staff to purchase the classroom materials they need to support student learning and success at James River Elementary!

THANK YOU to all JRE families and friends that clip and send in Box Tops for Education–keep up the great work!

Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night

Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is an innovative program used across America to positively impact students through the committed involvement of fathers and father figures.  The aim is to have interested dads, grandfathers, uncles, etc. spend at least one day during the school year volunteering at James River Elementary to demonstrate to all students the power of being a positive male role model.

Don’t miss the information session with FREE pizza & drinks on Thursday, October 18th at 6pm at James River Elementary, sponsored by your JRE PTA.  Watch for additional details and an RSVP form in your child’s folder.
